The fight against AI algorithm bias begins
Researchers who exposed extreme bias in healthcare algo have a plan
Corners of healthcare talk about mitigating the potential for algorithm bias, but there’s been no significant work toward it.
That just changed. A week after exposing extreme racial bias in one of the most widely used risk-predictor algorithms in medicine, three researchers at Chicago Booth are offering an action plan.
“Over the past week, we’ve heard from many organizations concerned that the algorithms they rely on are similarly biased. Most aren’t sure how to identify bias, and even more uncertain of what to do about it.”
The work will be based at Chicago Booth’s Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence.
